WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Orasqualia
Orascom Construction and Spanish wastewater management company Aqualia established Orasqualia in 2009. Its function is to construct, operate and maintain the New Cairo Wastewater Treatment Plant; a 250,000 cubic meter-a-day project serving one million people.
This 20-year Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is Egypt's first PPP project. Construction was completed in 2013 and operations began later that year.
RENEWABLE ENERGY
Ras Ghareb Wind Farm
Ras Ghareb Wind Farm is the first renewable energy project of its kind and size in Egypt. The 262.5 MW project is developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement.
Orascom Construction was the EPC contractor for the civil works and electrical systems, and owns a 20% stake in the project. The project was commissioned 45 days ahead of schedule in October 2019.
This project highlights Orascom Construction’s ability to combine fast-track construction, the highest levels of HSE, financing expertise, and collaboration with world class partners and international financial institutions.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Dammam West Independent Sewage Treatment Plant
In Q1 2019, a consortium between Orascom Construction, Metito and Mowah signed a Sewage Treatment Agreement (STA) with the Water and Electricity Company (WEC) for the Dammam West Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP) in Saudi Arabia. Financial closure is expected in 1Q20, with construction work to start immediately after. The project, which was signed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis, will have an initial capacity of 200,000 m³/ day, expandable to 350,000 m³/day. Orascom Construction is taking the lead on the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.
